Meet Claude!
Your new planning helper for every classroom at Sunshine Cottage
Claude is an AI assistant you talk to in everyday language. Ask it to draft a lesson, build practice pages, or write a note home, and you’ll have a great first draft in a minute or two. You stay in charge: review it, change it, make it yours.
- Works in your web browser
- Free for staff
- No tech skills needed
What can Claude do for you?
Pick your role to see ideas and example requests. Copy any example, paste it into Claude, and change the details to fit your class.
Psst! Tap your role to see ideas made just for you.
Look what Claude made!
Real printables made with Claude: coloring pages, worksheets, cut-out cards, a lesson plan, a family note, and visual supports. Look closer to see the request behind each one, then print it for your class.
Every page on this board started as one request. Tap a page to see what to type!
Depending on our school’s settings, Claude can create a printable PDF like these for you to download. If it can’t in your chat, ask for the text and layout to paste into Word or Google Docs. Results vary, so ask for changes until it’s just right.

A quick tour of Claude
Never used it before? Here’s a simple picture of what you’ll see at claude.ai. Tap a number, or step through with Next.
1. Maya picked 8 pumpkins and her brother picked 5. How many pumpkins did they pick in all?
2. There were 12 pumpkins on the wagon…
The recipe for a great request
The more Claude knows, the better the first draft. Mix these four ingredients and watch your request come together.
How much can I use it?
Like most AI tools, Claude has usage limits. Each staff member has their own allowance, and it refreshes over time.
For everyday planning, like a lesson here and a parent letter there, most people won’t come close. If you do reach your limit, Claude shows a message letting you know when you can pick back up.
What uses more is length: long conversations, big files, and large creations. That’s because Claude rereads the whole conversation, including any files, each time you send a message.
What uses more?

Make your allowance go further
- Start a new chat for each new task instead of one long chat.
- Keep files you use often in a Project so you don’t re-upload them.
- Give the key details up front: grade, topic, length. Fewer redos!
- With a big file, ask for one piece at a time.
Ground rules: keep kids’ information safe
Claude is a tool for your planning and writing. Treat it like any school system: protect student privacy and use your professional judgment.
Our Claude Class Rules
- 1Leave out anything that identifies a student. No names, birthdays, photos, ID numbers, audiograms, IEPs, or medical details. Say “a 1st grader working on two-step directions” instead.
- 2Check before you use it.Claude can be wrong. Review facts, standards, and translations before anything reaches students or families.
- 3It’s for staff, not students.Claude is for adults on our team. Students shouldn’t sign in or use your account.
- 4School policies still apply. Our technology and privacy policies cover Claude just like email. When in doubt, ask first.

Questions staff often ask
How do I sign up?
Fill out the sign-up slip at the bottom of this page and send it to us. We’ll get your account set up and send an invitation to your school email.
Can Claude make printables like the ones on this page?
Yes. Ask for a coloring page, worksheet, cards, or a schedule, and say you’d like a printable PDF. Depending on our settings, Claude can create the file for you to download. If it can’t in your chat, it can give you the text and layout to paste into Word or Google Docs.
Does this cost me anything?
No. Your account is covered by the school’s plan.
I’m not a tech person. Can I still use it?
Yes! If you can write an email, you can use Claude. You type what you need in everyday language, and you can always ask it to explain something or try again.
Does Claude know the Texas TEKS?
It knows a lot about them, but standards are revised from time to time. For the best results, paste the exact standard you’re teaching into your request, and double-check any standard codes Claude gives you.
Can it make printable worksheets?
Yes. Ask for a worksheet and Claude will lay it out so you can copy it into Word or Google Docs. Depending on our settings, it can also create a Word or PDF file for you to download.
Can it read my files and pictures?
Yes. Use the + button to attach PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and images, then ask questions about them or ask Claude to rework them. Keep student information out of anything you attach.
Will it remember what I told it last week?
Your chats are saved, so you can reopen any of them and keep going. To give Claude lasting background about your class, create a Project and add a short description and your files there.
Is what I type private?
Our school uses a business plan, and Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, doesn’t use business customers’ conversations to train its models by default. Even so, never enter student names or other identifying details.
Can Claude make mistakes?
Yes. It can sound confident and still be wrong, especially with facts, dates, and numbers. Read everything before you use it with students or families.
What’s Claude Code?
You might hear that name. Claude Code is a version of Claude built for writing software. For lesson plans, letters, and classroom materials, you’ll use Claude at claude.ai.
